A Week Wrapped in Gallery Lights

Happy Sunday y’all.

Hey hey — another week is here, and it already feels like a chockfull plate. We kicked things off celebrating Erin’s birthday (I still can’t believe how fun that day got), and now I’m active between intern tasks, Photoshop layers, and trying to keep my head higher up the everyday turn.

My days lately look like this: staring at a screen for too long, trying to figure it out Photoshop, eating chips (kind of new habit, nah, it is not good) Somewhere in all this, life is doing its job — fast, funny, frustrating.

I’m hoping this space keeps being my little diary corner, full of what’s real — the good, the sleepy, the inspired, the "what am I even doing" questions.

Let’s go, week. I’m showing up — messy bun, strong coffee, and all.

When I sit at my temporary Whitespace desk, there's this little smirk on my face—because I’m about to write about Erin’s birthday. Hehe. What a lovely host, what an amazing day! Our wonderful Erin celebrated her birthday surrounded by such a warm, creative circle: artists like Samantha, Cody, Douglas, me (Seyma!), and the brilliant writer Widha, who’s just about to begin her journey in New York. It felt like one of those nights where everyone brings their own little sparkle, and somehow the whole room just glows. There is always such a thing being surrounded with artists conversation flows, happy laughs and any moment we can start cry and start to laugh again.  Get the vibe?

Our printmaker birthday girl teaches us every process of screen printing with all her patient and smiley face. And full of snacks mom made kitchen table. Wow! we made our colors, get the designs and start to experience the process. The best part is we shared our prints with each other. I want this I want this oh no I need red bear where is the blue bear? There is no black cat ?! such a thing. It was so much fun!!! Yeah, even though eating nonstop snacks, at some point eating pizza is a birthday rule you know.  Here we are at “Dogwood Pizza” which was so tasty with huge slices of pizzas and let me tell you this we have a new drink recipe. How was it, Erin? Orange Fanta, sprite and lemonade. She thinks it is so good, and we were like agree since she is the birthday girl. After a long day, we were all home safely. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!!

The day before, on Saturday, Whitespace had an opening show—Melissa Huang’s No Doll. Did I tell you before how being around art people just feels... right? Yeah, it was great. I had the chance to meet Melissa, ask her questions, and relink with familiar faces.

Up and down the stairs, phone in my hand, I smiled at everyone—trying to catch little moments with my camera. You know, for later, I will need them. Just before the opening started, a wild rainstorm hit. For a second, we all said, oh no, how are people going to make it? But minutes later, the loveliest art troop started showing up one by one. The sky turned dark, the garden lights popped on, and the night sincerely began.

When I came back to the gallery on Thursday, we opened the space again with lovely visitors! Suzan, the gallery owner, and Katie, our amazing gallery manager, were both there. Honestly, they’re the best gallery people you could ever meet—warm, nice, and full of art knowledge.

If you’re around, I really encourage you to stop by Whitespace. The shows are always inspiring, and the space itself just feels like a little creative pocket in the middle of the city. Yeah, that is true! You will see if you swing by.

Book update, I am about to finish Elsie Silver’s Chestnut Spring series, one hundred percent love, drama, country lol if this what you need is go with Elsie. (Skip the drama part, love and country feelings is great.)  And my psychical book is “The Last Love Note” which is going well so far. I will let you know what I think.

And the first week of the summer classes. Yay!! Some online work will keep me busy for hours which I do not like but what can I say? I have to deal with it, but the good part is graphic design lol ok I am not a huge fan of photoshop but when you start to figure it out, I admit it is so much fun to play and try.

That was the week!! these small, glowing moments—like standing under garden lights after the rain or laughing at Erin’s birthday—and I remember why I love showing up for all of it. See you next week friends!!!
